Before coming to Newman, T.J. Locke was with the Cherry Hill Public School system in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, one of the highest performing school districts in the country. From 2002 – 2006, T.J. was Director of Curriculum, responsible for K-12 curriculum, the accompanying and ongoing professional development of the district’s 1,000 teachers, and the integrated and informative assessments used to evaluate and inform implementation of the curriculum.
T.J. has been a principal of an elementary school, an assistant principal of a middle school, and he taught English for six years. He is an avid sports fan and coached varsity boys and girls volleyball teams. He was named the Newark Star-Ledger’s New Jersey Coach of the Year in 1999 after winning the state championship.
T.J. has a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters in Educational Administration, both from Rutgers University. He was awarded a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Organizational Theory from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2005.
T.J. is married to Lauren, and they have one daughter, Katie, who will be 3 years old in March.
