Each day as I walk around campus, I am consistently impressed with the educational experience our students receive here at Newman. This is truly a special place, and I hope through our communications, we have provided you with a glimpse of the many exciting events and initiatives that keep our school vibrant.
You have probably heard me discuss Newman’s journey toward preeminence. We have curriculum committees working on strengthening our academic program. We have increased our commitment to professional development, and we have aligned our study with our curricular goals. We are benchmarking our progress and consistently sharing ideas with our colleagues from the best schools in the country. Each day Newman builds its own capacity to improve in systematic and meaningful ways.
Recently, the Newman Board of Governors approved the School’s strategic plan. This vision will guide our work for the next several years, and I believe the following introduction captures the spirit of our mission:
This is a critical and exciting time in the life of Isidore Newman School. The School has earned a deserved position among the finest day schools in the nation, and its graduates have established themselves nationally and as an integral part of the civic and social fabric of the New Orleans community. Yet it is important that Newman continuously examine all of its programs, and that the School embrace the challenges of 21st century education without losing sight of its founding mission. Newman has a well deserved reputation for excellence—our goal is to achieve preeminence in every aspect of the school.
