English Teachers Meet with Top Literary Scholar 3/23/2007 Earlier this month, four members of the English department – Evan Clary, Matt Innes, Laurie Williams and Tom Williams — attended a discussion and workshop hosted by Tulane’s English department. The guest speaker was John Guillory, an English professor at New York University and one of the leading literature scholars in the country. Professor Guillory (a Jesuit graduate, by the way) was in town to discuss some of the implications for literature and language curricula posed by his book, Cultural Capital.
7th Grade Tours the Anne Frank Exhibit 3/20/2007 Monday March 5, 2007, the 7th grade toured the Anne Frank exhibit at the World War II Museum. This was the closing event for the English class unit on the world of Anne Frank and the Holocaust. Each year, the 7th grade reads the play version of The Diary of Anne Frank, excerpts from her diary, Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli, and biographical pieces on Oskar Schindler and other rescuers. We were fortunate this year to be able to view this informative and moving exhibit.
