Newman students’ commitment to Community Service continues into the Middle School. Here, they begin to learn the value of voluntary service activities by participating in activities such as Service Day with the Upper School students. On Service Day, students leave campus for a day in order to volunteer at various community agencies.

The events surrounding Hurricane Katrina certainly inspired the Middle School students to give back to the community. In May, 6th grade students delivered Appreciation Boxes to some of our first responders during Katrina. The officers at the First and Second District Police Stations and the fire fighters at the New Orleans Fire Department Task Force were most appreciative of the packages delivered by the students. The boxes included baked goods and thank-you notes designed and signed by our 6th grade students.
