Attendance at an open house is not required as part of the application process. Open houses are, however, often helpful to families who are trying to decide which school might be the best match for their child.
There is no required minimum score on admission tests. Admission testing is only one part of the application process and the results will be looked at in conjunction with teacher recommendations, previous grades and observations or interviews.
Applications for students whose birthdays fall after the cutoff are certainly taken and considered as any other application would be. However, our applicant pool tends to be on the older side each year, so a young applicant might be considered too young to be a good match for the class he or she would be entering.
By agreement with the other ISAS schools in the area, we can send first notices of admission on an agreed upon date in March for grades 1 – 12 and a slightly later date in March for grades PK & K for files that are complete at that time. That date is determined at the beginning of each year by the ISAS group. After those dates, we will notify families as soon as files are complete.
No. But we are looking for students who will flourish in an accelerated curriculum so, among other things, we look at previous report cards/transcripts and teacher comments to get a feel for how his/her current teachers feel the student is performing.
Post-Katrina, any student who lives in Orleans Parish is immediately eligible. Students who do not live in Orleans Parish will not be eligible for their first year at Newman. However, they can practice with the team and participate in every way except being listed on the roster and playing during that first year.
No. We accept students from a wide range of nursery schools.
Yes. You may call the admission office and schedule a morning for your child to visit.
No. You can print the application form and records release form from the website, but you must complete it and mail it to the school.
Newman does not offer academic or athletic scholarships, but does offer a need-based financial aid program which can award grants to families for a portion of the tuition based on their need.
The portion of the financial aid application that needs to be submitted to SSS can be done online through their website. The portion that needs to come back to Newman’s Financial Aid Office cannot be done online.
