If one measures success by the number of trophies, championships, and accolades received by individuals in our 23 competitive sports programs, then clearly Newman has been nearly unmatched in its success.

However, the School would rather measure the success of the individual in developing those athletic skills while continuing to balance a successful academic program during his or attendance in the Upper School. Newman has produced a number of successful students in both the classroom and on the athletic field. Student at the top of their class at Newman have moved on to the university level and eventually to the professional level in athletics while maintaining a superlative effort in the academic world.

Perhaps more impressively, Newman has produced athletes who have gone on in life to be successful in their chosen vocations and, along the way, were chosen to be Rhodes Scholars based upon their academic accomplishments.

The School’s philosophy is to carry the rigorous academic standards from the classroom to the playing field, all while developing in the concepts of competition and teamwork necessary in today’s world.
