The Arts Athletics College Counseling Student Support Programs
College Counseling
Timeline
  • Students should do their best in all courses. Most colleges include freshman year grades when determining an applicant’s GPA. Freshman year grades will appear on the Newman transcript.
  • There is no formula for extra curricular involvement regarding college admissions. However, students should get involved in their school or community in areas of interest, such as athletics, the arts, community service, student government, etc .
  • Students who are invited to take AP European History or Honors Chemistry in the sophomore year should strongly consider taking the course. The most selective colleges will expect students to take advantage of the most challenging courses that are available to them.
  • Students should spend their summer productively doing something that they really enjoy.
