The Greenie House enrolls children between the ages of six weeks and four and a half years. As an employer sponsored center, we first meet the needs of Faculty and Staff at Isidore Newman School. Once those needs have been met, we enroll additional children from the community.
The younger children (infants, one and two year olds) are enrolled in mixed-age Family Groups of four children with one primary caregiver. A typical group may be made up of a six-month old infant, a thirteen-month old toddler, a twenty-month old climber and a 2½-year old mastering toileting. Activities are planned to meet the appropriate developmental stage for each child. Children will "grow up" in their Family Group for up to three years. Ideally they will remain with the same caregiver until they are ready to move up to the Big Guys.
The Big Guys group is made up of 10-14 three and young four year olds. Children may remain in the Big Guy group for two years, until they are ready to enter a Pre-Kindergarten program. The Big Guys curriculum, while developmentally appropriate, is more structured than the Family Groups in order to ready them for future school programs. Themes are based upon children's interests and quality children's literature is emphasized.
