Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to help your child’s school. Volunteering not only helps Newman but also can be very rewarding. Being a part of school activities is a special way to stay in touch with parents, students and faculty throughout the year. You will know first hand what is going on at Newman. Even if you work full time, there are opportunities at night and on weekends. Please look over all the ways you can participate and fill out the Greenie Volunteer form. Someone will contact you shortly after your submission is received. Thank you for your commitment to Newman and our children.

ANNUAL FUND
Volunteers can fill a variety of roles that provide opportunities to get to know other parents, from assisting with mailings to making calls to support our children’s Newman education. Every gift – and every volunteer – makes a difference!

BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION
This casual event allows student, faculty, staff and parents to visit after the summer break before the school year begins. Help us get this year off to a great start! August 22nd from 4:00-6:00 pm.

BOOK FAIR
Beginning with the opening preview party on a Sunday afternoon, a weeklong book fair is held each fall. This is a great opportunity to meet other Newman parents. Proceeds from the Book Fair are allocated to the libraries. If you love to read, this is the job for you! November 2nd – 6th.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Help the Newman staff to organize and implement philanthropic projects for the Lower School students.

CONCESSIONS
Please consider volunteering for one or more games this fall. Concessions provide refreshments to Newman spectators and visiting teams. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends, interact with our students and help Newman welcome families from other schools.

DADS CLUB RACE
Help make the annual race a family affair. Both moms and dads are needed for this exciting event, held one Saturday each spring in Audubon Park.

FACULTY APPRECIATION LUNCHES
Help show the most important people in our school – administrators, teachers and staff – how much the parent community appreciates all they do for our children by cooking, baking or shopping for three different lunch events.

GARAGARAMA (NEW!)
A new event this year, Garagarama is an upscale garage sale featuring gently used treasures from Newman families. Volunteers are needed for pricing, display, marketing and staffing.

GREENIE CONNECTION
This is our version of the “welcome wagon.” All new families are matched with veteran families to answer questions and to help make newcomers feel a part of the Newman family before the school year begins.

HELPING HANDS
Please sign up to provide meals (or help with additional needs) for families within our community who are going through difficult times or who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Great for people who like to cook and want to support the Newman community.

LOWER SCHOOL LIBRARY
Assist the librarians! Help in the Lower School library shelving books, processing books, and helping students with book selections.

LUNCH RELIEF
During lunch, you can answer the telephones in the Upper, Middle or Lower School division offices to let our staff enjoy their noon hour. Volunteers needed throughout the year.

MAILING COMMITTEE
Volunteers will be needed throughout the year to sort, stuff and label special event mailings. This informal setting provides a comfortable atmosphere in which to meet other parents.

N'SPIRATION
Volunteers are needed to help plan and implement a wonderful evening of food, fun and camaraderie. This is Newman Parent’s largest fundraiser. Whether you can plan a party, design invitations or set up or tear down, your expertise is invaluable. N’Spiration is a spring event but many hours of preparation go into it in the months before.

NEWMAN FAMILY DINNER
Help plan a casual outdoor dinner for the Newman community. This event will coincide with the opening of the Book Fair on November 2nd.

PARENT EDUCATION (NEW!)
This committee will organize meetings on topics dealing with parenting challenges, and provides guest speakers on pertinent issues. The meetings will serve as outlets for open communications among parents.

PECAN SALES
Newman will again be selling Pointe Coupee pecans for the holidays. Volunteers will be needed to market this as a holiday gift, process orders and mail the pecans. This can be done during or after school hours.

PROJECT UNIFORM
Throughout the year, used uniforms in good condition are collected from Lower School parents and sold at our recycled uniform sales. This is a great fundraiser, and an excellent opportunity to meet Lower School parents.

SPECIAL FRIEND'S DAY
This is a fun filled day for the lower school on November 25th when the students show off their work and school to their “special friends.” Whether it is a grandparent, aunt, uncle or close friend, the guests are welcomed with cookies and lemonade. No one gets lost with special volunteer coordinators.

SPIRIT STORE
The Parents Association is responsible for operating the Spirit Store, formerly known as the Newman Book Store. Volunteers will be needed throughout the year for inventory, staffing and to man the Spirit Cart at special event functions.

TAILGATORS (NEW!)
Several times during the year Newman Parents, along with the Athletic Department, will put on tail gate parties before a sporting event. Volunteers are needed to organize these family-oriented events.
