Harry Blumenthal '63 - 2004

Harry Blumenthal, Class of 1963, received the 2004 Distinguished Alumnus Award.

“He who starts much finishes little” is an example of all that is not true of Harry Blumenthal. The many starts and finishes Mr. Blumenthal has undertaken throughout his professional and civic career include service as chairman of numerous local boards and recognition for lifetime achievement by such organizations as the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Anti-Defamation Leaque and United Way. Since his high school graduation in 1963, Mr. Blumenthal has left his mark upon the New Orleans non-profit community, and, as recognized with the prestigious Distinguished Alumnus Award, on Isidore Newman School as well.

Harry is unusually attentive to everything going on in the School and is never willing to stand for the status quo. Through his service to the School’s community, he has given so much of his time and talent with no hint of self-promotion.

At Newman, Mr. Blumenthal played intramural football and basketball, worked on the Pioneer, served as Freshman Class President, and participated in various extracurricular activities and student organizations. He graduated with a B.A. from Yale University in 1967 and served as an Officer in the United States Navy. He currently is President and CEO of Blumenthal Print Works Inc., a leading supplier of textiles to the home furnishing industry. He served as Chairman of the Newman Board of Governors from 1998 - 2000, and is credited with leading the effort to increase teacher pay and for co-chairing the School’s most recent fundraising campaign.
