[FULL STORY}
Each year Forbes creates its “30 Under 30” list, a collection of the 30 most outstanding and influential people in 20 different fields, ranging from art and style to science and business. We are pleased to announce that this year the list includes two Newman graduates, Anoop Jain ’04 and Alex Reed ’04.

Founding director of Sanitation and Health Rights in India (SHRI), Anoop Jain turned a problem into an opportunity. By providing special toilets for underserved communities in India, he could both improve sanitation and produce energy to power generators for water purification or to power electronics. He intends to create a scalable and sustainable business model that can be used throughout India and elsewhere. Energy from waste is big business indeed; NPR recently reported that the city of Grand Junction, CO is using methane from human waste to power its garbage trucks and city buses.

As for Reed, this graduate’s success all boils down to one word: plastics. Co-founder of Advanced Polymer Monitoring Technologies (APMT), Reed helps create products and services to help monitor and control polymer reactions in real time. Real-time control of these reactions can increase productivity, improve product quality, and reduce a company’s environmental footprint.
