Cultural Awareness Club
Out of the many clubs at Newman, Cultural Awareness Club provides an opportunity to sample different cultures without ever leaving a classroom. Through presentations, cultural lunches, and special events, club members learn about different aspects of different cultures.
Free Thinkers Society
Once a week, the Newman Free Thinkers Society convenes to exercise its members’ critical thinking abilities. In an informal symposium setting, topics of current events and philosophy are discussed. Members present ideas that are subsequently challenged by their peers. As ideas go through the gauntlet of discussion, they are challenged and forced to develop. The result of this is not that the Society answers the many enigmatic questions of philosophy but rather that its members discover how to make good arguments for them.
Forensic Squad
The Newman Forensics Squad is committed to building interest and skill in debate and competitive speaking at the Middle and Upper School Levels. Maintaining membership in the NFL, CFL, and LHSSL, the students are encouraged to strive for excellence in public speaking and to promote respect among the student leagues that support this worthwhile endeavor.
