Why Give?
Founded in 1903 to enrich New Orleans by educating its best and brightest students regardless of socio-economic status, Newman continues that mission today. With high academic standards and continued success in athletics, the arts and extra-curricular activities, Newman remains committed to each individual student and instills in them the core values of honesty, kindness, respect and responsibility. While Newman is a smaller school after Katrina, it remains the largest independent school in New Orleans and is able to offer a wide variety of courses and activities for its students.

Now more than ever, charitable giving is essential to secure Newman for New Orleans. As the City looks to Newman to keep and attract the families who cherish academic excellence and to educate future leaders, Newman relies on the contributions of its alumni, parents, grandparents and friends to sustain it.

Financial support is vital as the School and City continue along the path of rebuilding. Each year, Newman’s most immediate need is Annual Fund which directly impacts faculty salaries and benefits, student programs, financial aid, library acquisitions and campus maintenance. From academics to athletics to the arts, the Annual Fund provides the resources vital to the School’s success.

Capital gifts, starting with the first one made by Isidore Newman, have enabled the School to build an entire campus. Each building and space is being made available to our students through the generosity of previous generations of parents, alumni and friends, which allows the School to devote tuition to operating a first-class program.

The School also has a $30,000,000 endowment. Five percent of the endowment is taken each year and now provides almost $1.5 million to the annual operating budget. Gifts from families and friends and a strong investment plan have enabled the endowment to grow and provide significant assets to the School each year. The current endowment per student is over $30,000 and provides $1,500 per student to the operating budget.

Your gift is essential to the successful operation and growth of the School.
