Architecture: A NOMA/Newman Arts Collaboration explores the built environment across cultures and media. Works conceived as adornment to buildings, as well as representations of real and imagined structures, demonstrate artists’ fascination with architecture. The selected works from the collection of the New Orleans Museum of Art serve as inspiration for Isidore Newman School students, whose work is also on display.

Intended to greatly enrich our students’ understanding of and appreciation for the visual arts, the Friedler Family Artist-in-Residence continues the program established in 2007 by Donna and Ben Rosen ’50. The program brings a recognized artist to Isidore Newman School to teach, lecture, and exhibit his or her original work. The artist conducts workshops and one-on-one sessions with students, offering them perhaps their first chance to get to know someone who makes a living as an artist.

This special exhibition showcases the work of our advanced visual arts students. Many of the seniors have demonstrated a fine arts focus throughout their study at Isidore Newman School. This exhibition serves as a celebration of their talents. Newman teaches that the arts are a universal language, one which is essential to the development of the whole child. The arts develop creative thinking and self-expression. They strengthen self-confidence and heighten aesthetic awareness, sensitivity, and the ability to visualize through the creative process. Please join us to celebrate our senior student-artists.

Artist Spaces: New Orleans highlights in more than 100 extraordinary images the studios of several New Orleans artists. The book also includes interviews conducted by Morgan Molthrop with each artist. This exhibit will explore the creative and collaborative process to produce this extraordinary book. In a series of workshops, Newman and Breakthrough students will work with nationally known artists to create artwork and a publication to be exhibited at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. This opportunity to unite young student artists throughout the New Orleans community to collaborate and create art has been made possible by the Harry T.
