Newman Celebrates Homecoming 2019

Today Newman recognized the members of the 2019 Homecoming Court in a ceremony for the Upper School. Homecoming Queen Adair Rufty joined Homecoming King Jarmone Sutherland and the other members of the Court on stage to be presented to their peers, and to hear remarks by Katy Casbarian ’95.

Casbarian, who co-owns and operates Arnaud’s Restaurant, spoke about lessons learned at Newman that resonated throughout her life and career in the high-pressure restaurant management business. She encouraged students to gain perspective by seeking out environments outside of Newman and New Orleans; to work hard to achieve their goals; and to do their best whether or not they “win.”

Following the presentation and remarks, the Homecoming Court recessed and joined their parents, families, friends, and teachers in the Reynolds Ryan Gallery for a special reception. Later that afternoon, the entire school participated in field game activities in the Cotonio Palaestra and a Homecoming pep rally on Michael Lupin Field.

Homecoming culminates in tonight’s varsity football game against East Jefferson, where the court will be presented at halftime. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. on Michael Lupin Field, and all members of the Newman community are invited to attend. Prior to the game there is a special reception for alumni on Kolb Field.

Joining Rufty and Sutherland, members of the 2019 Homecoming Court are Marley Aamodt, Adair Cook, James Downing, Hampton Gomila, Dylan Guillen, Zoe Guillen, Bria Joseph, Harry Milvid, Claire Moffett, Emmet Morrison, Max Moses, Carson Oliver, Olivia Pitt, Nicholas Provosty, Margot Roussel, and Charlotte Williams.
