Newman Students Inducted into Cum Laude Society

Each year, faculty members of the Newman chapter of the Cum Laude Society induct new members, seniors whose grade point averages place them academically at the top of their classes. The Dianne Lynn Levy Memorial lecture is delivered at the induction ceremony by a distinguished member of the Newman community. This year, 16 Newman students were inducted into the Cum Laude Society at an assembly of the Upper School, and alumnus Dr. Scott Kellermann ’63 was selected as the Cum Laude Speaker.

Kellermann is a California-based physician, expert in tropical medicine, and decorated humanitarian. As the founder of the Bwindi Community Hospital in Uganda, he has provided health care for thousands of members of the local Batwa tribe and surrounding communities. In his remarks, Dr. Kellermann emphasized the importance of relationships in both personal happiness and career success, describing how his Western clinic’s cooperation with local tribal healers created a foundation of trust for it to flourish. Dr. Kellermann congratulated the inductees and thanked the many Newman friends who attended the ceremony to hear his remarks.

The new Cum Laude members from the Class of 2020 were announced prior to the speech. They are:

Marley Aamodt, Catherine Cahn, Niyati Duggal, Anise Haley, Ross Jacobson, Harry Milvid, Jane Murphy, Brooke Nguyen, Carson Oliver, Jean-Paul Pertuit, Olivia Pitt, Margot Roussel, Adair Rufty, Roan Sutton, Kate Wellons, and Charlotte Williams.
