Newman Junior Wins Scholastic Writing Award

Junior Nithya Ramcharan '21 is the first Newman student in at least a decade to win an American Voices Medal from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. She earned this national honor for her short story, "Trapped in Globes." Nithya became eligible for national consideration after winning a Gold Key for the South Louisiana region. In past years, American Voices Medal winners and other national honorees have been celebrated at a June event at Carnegie Hall. Whether or not that event proceeds, let's cheer for Nithya as a Newman community!

Nithya's work will be published on the Scholastic Awards website, at artandwriting.org/galleries, and could be selected for inclusion in the upcoming yearly publication of Best Teen Writing.
