R. Hibbert
The Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair took place at Tulane University’s New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair on February 26-28, and Newman students were among the fair’s grand prize winners, in addition to earning many other accolades.

A team consisting of seniors Dylon Hill, Abhi Jani, and Royden Lynch won a grand prize for their entry, an automated energy system for schools to monitor and control energy use to increase efficiency. Freshman Javon Ruffin also earned a grand prize for his study of the effect of native versus tropical milkweed on the growth of Monarch caterpillars.

Industry prizes and second through fifth place finishes were awarded to several other students, including seniors Finn Bendana, Storey Charbonnet, Myles Pick, and Cy Winsberg; juniors Emma Freeman, Garrett McNamara, and Camille Patton; and freshmen Emily Alfortish and Ella Aluise.

The four grand prize winners and junior Emma Freeman will move on to the Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair in Baton Rouge on March 20 and 21. Please join us in congratulating these exceptional students and wishing them luck in their next science competitions.
