Seniors Celebrate Move-Up Day 2018

E. Eagan
On their last official day on campus before Awards Night, the seniors joined the underclassmen to celebrate Move-Up Day, and then gathered as a class on the Michael Lupin Field to count down to the final bell.

At the Move-Up Day Ceremony, the Class of 2018 took to the stage, making room for the Class of 2019 to assume their places of honor in the front rows of the Henson Auditorium. Each successive class followed, with the 8th grade Class of 2022 on hand to take their place in the Upper School.

Later in the ceremony, senior Helena Stanley was presented with the Heather M. Pereira Memorial Award for optimism and enthusiasm and AK Aluise with the Daniel Frederick Anepohl Award for most esteemed member of the class; Senior Class President and Executive Committee Chair Calder Schmidt issued the oath of office to next year’s class president Audrey Singer and the rest of the newly elected Executive Committee officers.

The seniors then announced their class gift, the establishment of a scholarship in their name. Senior members of the yearbook staff then announced the dedication of their yearbook to Upper School Assistant Lauran Greene.

Afterward, the seniors ceded the Senior Patio to the class of 2019 and joined their teachers, parents, and friends in the Krohn Foyer for a special luncheon.

Immediately prior to the end-of-school bell, seniors spilled out onto Lupin Field for the final countdown. An ill-timed afternoon thunderstorm moved the celebration to the Gottesman Pool but did not dampen spirits. As the clock struck three, the seniors celebrated the near-completion of their Newman journeys.

We look forward to honoring the seniors on Tuesday, May 29 at Awards Night and celebrating their graduation at Commencement on Wednesday, May 30 at Tulane’s McAlister Auditorium.
