Newman Teacher Named LSTA Science Teacher of the Year

R. Hibbert
The Louisiana Science Teachers Association (LSTA) named Newman’s Lisa Swenson Outstanding Science Teacher of the Year for 2018. On the short list for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), Ms. Swenson is known for her rigorous general science program and dedication to environmental stewardship and service learning. Ecological awareness is hard-wired into her curriculum, which includes a study of the New Orleans-area watershed, water quality testing, and a partnership with the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation to raise awareness about pollution and how to fight it.

The Outstanding Science Teacher of the Year Award is presented to science teachers who have demonstrated exemplary science teaching. The award is presented to only one teacher at each level: elementary, middle and secondary. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Swenson for this honor and well-deserved recognition.
