Young Alumni Luncheon and Career Prep Symposium

R.Hibbert
[FULL STORY]

Young alumni attending college returned to Newman on January 6 for a luncheon and first-ever Career Prep Symposium. Organized by the Alumni Relations Department, the symposium was meant to offer young alumni advice from seasoned professionals about the job market and establishing a career after college.

A panel of four successful alumni gathered to offer advice to the attendees. Panel members included Eric Eagan ’00, Newman’s Director of Communications; Katie Lind Frame ’96, Partner at executive recruiting company Lead Change;  Arianne Larimer ’05, Director of Client Success at Pure Spectrum; and J.T. Nesser ’92, Senior Legal Counsel for the Upstream Americas – Deep Water division of Shell Oil Company. The panel, moderated by College Counseling Director Ed Graf, covered a broad range of topics such as resume and cover later writing, job interview techniques, negotiating salaries, and maintaining a professional social media presence.

After the symposium, the young alumni gathered in the School’s Krohn Foyer for a buffet lunch, where they reconnected with old friends and former teachers while poring over the 2016 issue of the Absinthe. The Young Alumni Luncheon is a great way for Newman graduates to stay connected with the School. Scheduled during most colleges’ winter break, the luncheon is convenient for alumni to attend while home visiting family. We were privileged this year to have several knowledgeable alumni join us on the career panel.
