Another Banner Year for Newman's AP Program

E. Bomersback
In the 2025–26 school year, 236 Upper School students at Newman enrolled in at least one AP course - The highest number in school history! With more students participating than ever before and outcomes reaching record highs, our community has much to celebrate.

The data below highlights both the strength of our students’ performance and the success of our commitment to expanding access while maintaining academic excellence. We are thrilled to share some results from another banner year in our AP program.

  • Overall performance: In 2026, our students achieved a 93.1% passing rate. The national passing average across all AP courses was 61%.
  • Participation and access: We administered 475 AP exams last year. Unlike schools that restrict enrollment to protect scores, we expanded access to AP courses while still improving outcomes.
  • Course-specific excellence examples: In AP U.S. History, AP US Government and Politics, AP Biology, and AP Calculus AB 100% of Newman students passed.

  • 122 AP Scholars
    • 27 AP Scholars with Distinction - Students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams.

    • 62 AP Scholars with Honor - Students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams.

    • 33 AP Scholars - Students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.
By nurturing a strong culture of good pedagogy, dynamic instruction, and professional development, these impressive results celebrate great teaching and learning across the entirety of Newman’s Upper School, not just in AP courses.
