As an extension of the counselors’ work to guide students’ development and well-being they communicate openly and offer support to parents about relevant topics and concerns through various parent education programs. These parent education programs are promoted through Newman Communications emails, in the GreenEmail newsletters, and by word of mouth.

  • Parent Discussion Groups (by grade level)

Parents meet by grade level with the counselors to discuss particular issues and topics of interest. Meetings occur approximately once per trimester to share parenting experiences, address common concerns and strategies, and discuss relevant parenting topics.
  • Parent Presentations (by division)

The school counselors develop presentations for parents to attend. Typically these occur in the evening and include a speaker about a particular parenting or human development topic. Past presentations have related to issues such as social media, bullying, and teen alcohol and drug use. Please look for announcements throughout the year about upcoming presentations.
