Opportunities to Give

List of 4 frequently asked questions.

  • NEWMANfund

The NEWMANfund is our most important annual fundraising effort. Each year, annual gifts cover the cost between tuition and expenses and elevate the education experience for all students at Newman. In order to sustain our high academic standards and continue to offer robust extracurricular activities, we rely on the continued generosity of our community – parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends. Unrestricted NEWMANfund gifts are the highest form of philanthropy and the most powerful gift a donor can make to Newman. Our giving year runs from July 1 to June 30, though parents are asked to consider giving early during our All in October campaign. Gifting designations can be found here.

  • Capital Giving

If you are interested in learning more about our campus plan and capital projects please contact Mary Hoffman, Director of Advancement, at MaryHoffman@newmanschool.org or 504.896.6425.
  • Endowment

The Isidore Newman School Foundation is the School’s permanent investment account which provides income to the School and its programs in perpetuity. The School spends 5% of a 12 quarter rolling average on programs, people, and plant. Donors may make gifts to the general endowment or set up specific endowments for programmatic or scholarship support. Newman’s endowment is currently $35.6 million, with the majority benefitting financial aid and faculty. Newman awards over $2.8 million in financial aid to approximately 22% of the student body. The average scholarship is $11,600 annually.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • Why does Newman need to raise money?

Tuition and fees do not cover the entire operating budget each year. Annual giving, combined with income from the endowment and our auxiliary programs, covers this gap between tuition and expenses. When you give to the NEWMANfund you impact every Greenie on campus and provide flexible funding for the entire Newman educational experience.
  • Who is asked for NEWMANfund gifts?

The entire Newman community – Board of Governors, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, parents of alumni, and grandparents – is asked to make a donation the NEWMANfund each year by June 30.
  • How much does the School expect me to give?

Gifts of every size support our students, faculty, and staff during the current school year! Each gift provides for every division across campus. We ask you to make a gift in an amount that is most meaningful to your family. Again, each gift, no matter the amount, is an important reflection of your belief in the value of the mission of Newman and the educational experience of the School.
  • Which initiative should I support?

There is any array of options to financially support Newman. The NEWMANfund has several designations that are common gifting avenues and are listed here. Similarly, N’Spiration, Greenie Fest, and the Green and White Club all have sponsorship or membership opportunities available.
  • How do NEWMANfund and Capital/Endowment Gifts differ?

Gifts to the NEWMANfund are immediately put to use in funding priorities within the current school year budget. Gifts to capital projects and the endowments, currently through the Inspire campaign, are usually larger gifts that are typically spread over three to five year terms and fund long-term projects.
  • What is considered a Leadership gift?

NEWMANfund gifts of $1,903 or more are considered leadership gifts. A complete list of leadership giving levels is below:

  • How are donors recognized?

All donors are recognized annually in our Annual Report of Gifts available each fall. Those who have cumulatively given $1,903 or more to the NEWMANfund in a given year are invited to our 1903 Scholars Circle Party the following fall. Similarly, those giving $10,000+ are invited to annual Heads Circle reception.

For those supporting the Inspire Campaign, multiple naming opportunities are available.
