Application Process

How to Apply

In accordance with other independent schools in the area, Newman will begin to notify applicants to Grades 1-12 of their admission decisions on February 10, 2026. For Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, the notification date is March 10, 2026. Green Trees Early Childhood Village applicants will be notified at the end of January, 2026.

To be assured of timely processing, applications should be submitted as early in the fall as possible.While we will continue to accept applications throughout the year, we encourage you to apply by our recommended application deadline of December 1, 2025.

We will continue to accept applications throughout the year; however, waiting pools are sometimes established after these first notification dates. Please feel free to call with any questions about timing or process.

Applications for different grades will have slightly different processes. Please review the guidelines below for details including information about how to begin an application if you already have a Blackbaud account:

If you have submitted an online inquiry to Newman, registered for an admission event, or your child’s current school uses a Blackbaud platform, please select “Sign In” rather than “Sign Up” and log into iNewman with the same credentials used previously.

You may have to clear your browser history or cache in order to log in. The system will not allow you to be signed into two accounts at the same time.

If you have another child that currently attends Newman, you will use the same credentials to login and submit another application.

Pre-K & K
Applicant should turn 4 by August 31, 2026 for Pre-K, and 5 by August 31, 2026 for K.
- Application - $130 fee (non-refundable). This includes the $65 application fee and a $65 fee for a Developmental Screening scheduled by Newman.
- Parent Questionnaire (Form will be emailed to you once a visit has been scheduled).
- Teacher recommendation from current school. (Request will be sent by Newman. Release form required.)
- Observation at current school. (Scheduled by Newman and/or a child may be asked to visit Newman.)
- Optional tour of Newman.

Grades 4-12
- Application - $65 fee (non-refundable).
- Visit Day if applying to grades 4-7: Please contact Newman Admission to coordinate a visit day and admission assessments.
- Visit Day if applying to grades 8-12: Register here for a visit day.
- Teacher recommendations and report cards or transcripts from current school. (Request will be sent by Newman. A release form is included at the end of your application.)
- Applicant interview, writing sample, and academic assessments. (These will be scheduled by Newman and the applicant family.)
- Admission testing – Students may submit standardized testing scores from the ISEE, SSAT or ERB/CTP tests. (If the applicant is currently enrolled in an NAIS/ISAS school, we will accept recent standardized testing from their school.)
- For applicants in grades 6-12, Newman will host the ISEE test on campus; however, you may take any of these tests at another location and have your score forwarded to us. (Our school code is: 192045.) You may register online for the ISEE using these directions. ISEE has a testing fee payable directly to ISEE online. Please call or email us if you have questions about testing requirements or registration.

How do I get information regarding the admission process at Isidore Newman School?

Do I have to come to an open house if my child is applying for admission?

Attendance at an open house is highly recommended but not required as part of the application process. Open houses are, however, often helpful to families who are trying to decide which school might be the best match for their child.
What score does my child have to have on the admission test in order to be admitted?

There is no required minimum score on admission tests. Admission testing is only one part of the application process and the results will be looked at in conjunction with teacher recommendations, previous grades and observations or interviews.
My child will not be 4 until after August 31. Can he/she still apply for Pre-K?

Applications for students whose birthdays fall after the cutoff are certainly taken and considered as any other application would be. However, our applicant pool tends to be on the older side each year, so a young applicant might be considered too young to be a good match for the class he or she would be entering.
When will I know whether or not my child has been admitted?

By agreement with the other ISAS schools in the area, we can send first notices of admission on an agreed upon date in February or March for grades 1 – 12 and a slightly later date in March for grades Pre-K and Kindergarten for files that are complete at that time. That date is determined at the beginning of each year by the ISAS group. After those dates, we will notify families as soon as files are complete.
Is there a minimum GPA needed for admission to the Upper School?

No. But we are looking for students who will flourish in an accelerated curriculum; so, among other things, we look at previous report cards/transcripts and teacher comments to get a feel for how his/her current teachers feel the student is performing.
Is it possible for my child to visit Newman in order to decide whether or not to apply?

Yes. Visit days and other admission events will occur throughout the year. You may register for these directly on our website, or call our office at 504-896-6323 for more information.

Does Newman offer financial assistance?

Is there an application fee?

Yes. The application fee is $50.
Is there a fee for admission testing?

Yes. The fee varies by grade, depending on the admission test and the testing agency.
