    Yeah! Swimming!

Newman Swimming

T.J. Locke

(Dr. Locke's Blog)

If you ever want a fun experience, try going to a Newman swim meet. Every time I go to one, I wonder why I don't go more often. First and foremost, these kids are the best. They have the best team spirit, they support each other, and they model every characteristic I would want from a Newman student. Oh, and by the way- they are phenomenal swimmers!

Newman easily won the meet yesterday defeating De La Salle, Benjamin Franklin, Grace King, Ursuline Academy, and E. Karr. But blowing away the competition was not important to these athletes. It seemed to me that they all just like being part of a team, working hard, and having fun. There was the mad cheer of "Woo" complete with W's in the air, cheering on Katie Woo. My favorite moment was watching the boys swim the 400 Free Relay. Newman was unopposed, but that didn't stop the team from screaming their lungs out to root them on.

A lot of our swimmers set personal records yesterday. More than a handful qualified for the state meet with their times. Others just wanted to get their work in as they prepare to defend their state titles.

I had a blast. I hope you can find time to experience the fun and excitement!
