Newman is proud to award Seals of Biliteracy, for the first time, as international recognition of a student's level of proficiency in two world languages. To earn the Global Seal of Biliteracy in the United States, a high school student must demonstrate excellence in English, based on SAT or ACT scores, and a high level of proficiency in a second world language, based on internationally recognized proficiency exams.
Silver global seals certify ACTFL intermediate-mid to high level/ B1 in the second language. Gold global seals certify ACTFL advanced-low/ B2 level in the second language and are the highest awarded at the high-school level.
The Louisiana Department of Education also awards Seals of Biliteracy for ACTFL intermediate-high/B1 or above in the second world language.
