Newman Varsity Basketball legend Randy Livingston ’93 has just scored a spot in the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame. The honor of being inducted to the Hall of Fame is reserved for New Orleans-born athletes who are widely recognized for their athletic achievements and athletes who gained fame during their time in New Orleans. The initiation ceremony will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on August 6, 2016. Livingston’s name will join other Newman icons such as Coaches Ed “Skeets” Tuohy, Tony Reginelli, and Billy Fitzgerald.
Livingston’s basketball career began at Newman in the early ’90s, when he led the team to three back-to-back state championships. After graduating in 1993, he continued his basketball career at LSU and eventually advanced to the NBA where he played for the Houston Rockets. After playing in the NBA for the better part of 11 seasons, Livingston moved to Australia, where he currently resides, to scout candidates for men’s and women’s college basketball. Returning home to receive his award in early August, Livingston will also lead a summer basketball camp for young athletes who share his love of the sport.
