Newman’s ACTIONS group has successfully completed its fall book drive, delivering books to a school and a library in the New Orleans areas. The acronym ACTIONS stands for the rather anonymous-sounding “A Committee to Involve Other Newman Students” but the group is hardly a bunch of Clark Kents, and they are certainly up to some super deeds. Part of Newman’s philosophy is a spirit of community service, and ACTIONS puts that philosophy into action.
In the fall book drive, students Reid Bergen, Angele Cherbonnier, Hillary Haspel, Rebecca Fisher, Dreda Romig, Kelly Swanson collected and sorted books that were donated to the McDonough City Park Academy and the New Orleans Public Library. While the drive was organized by the group and spearheaded by senior Hillary Haspel, we would like to recognize the many volunteers who helped sort and deliver the books, as well as members of the Newman community that donated all of the titles and helped make this drive such a success.
