School Is Back in Session

R. Hibbert
With open doors and open arms, high-fives and wide smiles, Newman’s faculty and staff welcomed new and returning students in grades Pre-K-12 to the 2017-18 school year. (This follows yesterday's opening day of Green Trees Early Childhood Village, which you can read about here.) There is nothing like the excitement of the first day, with the promise embarking on a new year of learning, rising to new challenges, and developing strong relationships.

In carpool, in the halls, and in newly-redecorated classrooms, students and teachers introduced themselves and reconnected with former classmates and friends. Many parents enthusiastically led their children to their classrooms, stopping for a burst of “first day photos.” Some students, eager to stretch their wings, assured their parents that they’d be OK, that they could make their way on their own.

In the Middle and Upper School locker rooms, students happily greeted friends and new faces before the morning bell, eagerly anticipating the day of classes and activities.

For the 150 students who are new to Newman in Pre-K through 12th grade, it was the beginning of an educational journey full of possibility. For others it was a homecoming, being back in school with familiar faces, places, and routines. For seventh grader Caroline Henry, it was all about the people.  “I am so glad to be back,” she said, “because I get to see all my friends. This is such a great place to be when you've got all your friends around you.”

We can’t wait to see what our students will experience and accomplish this year in the classroom and art studio, on the stage and playing field, and in all of their endeavors at Newman.
