On their last official day on campus before Awards Night, the seniors joined the underclassmen to celebrate Move-Up Day and the countdown to the final bell.
At the Move-Up Day Ceremony, the Class of 2016 took to the stage, making room for the Class of 2017 to assume their spots of honor in the front rows of Henson for assemblies next year. Each successive class followed, with the 8th grade Class of 2020 on hand to take their place in the Upper School.
Later in the ceremony, senior Ryan McNamara was presented with the Heather M. Pereira Memorial Award for optimism and enthusiasm and Alex Abramson with the Daniel Frederick Anepohl Award for most esteemed member of the class; Directors of College Counseling Ed Graf and Marie Bigham read the names of National Merit Commended Students, Finalists, and Scholars; and Senior Class President and Executive Committee Chair McKenzie Cummins issued the oath of office to next year’s class president Michael Brown. The seniors then announced their class gift of funds to renovate the Upper School Office, and dedicated their yearbook to Mr. Andrew Bond, Upper School history and government teacher. Finally, they ceded the Senior Patio to the class of 2017 and joined their teachers, parents, and friends in the Krohn Foyer for a special luncheon.
After enjoying some afternoon entertainment in the Henson Auditorium, the seniors spilled out onto Lupin Field for the final countdown. As the clock struck three, the seniors celebrated, spraying their friends with shaving cream and dousing them with buckets of water.
We look forward to honoring the seniors on Tuesday, May 31 at Awards Night and celebrating their graduation at Commencement on Wednesday, June 1 at Tulane University’s McAlister Auditorium.
