Four members of the Speech and Debate Team traveled to Shreveport on Saturday, September 24 to compete at Caddo Magnet High School. It was the first opportunity this year for Newman students to qualify for the State Tournament. All four of them are now qualified for State, as each won third place or better in his respective event.
Max Kanner ’18 took third place in the varsity division of Lincoln-Douglas Debate; seniors James Xiang ’17 and Shuzheng Zheng ’17 won first place in the varsity division of Policy Debate. And sophomore Beau VanDenburgh ’19 won first place in the novice division of Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Watch for more news soon as our debaters tour the state and country for their debate competitions.
