Galatoire's Table Auctions to Benefit Breakthrough
A table at Galatoire’s on the Fridays before Christmas and Mardi Gras is so highly prized that the restaurant auctions reservations for these days each year, with the proceeds going to philanthropic causes. This year, Breakthrough New Orleans is one of two local non-profits chosen out of over 20 applicants as auction beneficiaries.
This once-in-a-century opportunity promises to have a major impact on Breakthrough’s fundraising. Last year’s beneficiaries raised more than $30,000 each through the table auctions. The other non-profit selected, Eden House, has a Newman connection: its founder, Kara Van de Carr, is a Newman parent, and this year many student community service activities have benefitted the organization.
Members of the Newman community – and anyone else who wants to participate in the auction – will have their chance on December 4 (for the December 22 seating) and January 15 (for the February 9 seating). The auctions themselves are fun social events, with admission being the price of a paddle ($50). Please visit the Galatoire’s website for more information and to purchase a paddle.
“We are so grateful to have been selected as a beneficiary of the Galatoire’s table auctions this year,” said Breakthrough Executive Director Albion Sumrell. “In addition to fundraising dollars, these signature events offer us greater visibility among the New Orleans community, allowing us to continue to expand the educational opportunities for students in this city. As one of the few programs in New Orleans that supports students from Middle School all the way through to college, the Galatoire’s Foundation could not have made a better choice than Breakthrough.”
Newman is proud to host Breakthrough on campus for its summer program for high-achieving Middle School students and for Saturday School and other programs throughout the year. We encourage members of the Newman community to attend the Galatoire's auction and to bid on a table. Even if you don’t win the auction, your participation in the event with the purchase of a paddle will benefit Breakthrough.
