Coach Stewart is a former Newman student-athlete and football player who played under the renowned Newman Football Coach Tony Reginelli. Stewart graduated from Newman in 1995 after lettering for four years and serving as a team captain his senior year. After graduation from Newman, Stewart played offensive line for four years at Tulane University. While at Tulane, Nelson had the good fortune of playing under Tommy Bowden during Tulane's 1998 undefeated season.
Nelson came home to Newman in 1999 to coach Football and teach Physical Education. For the last 12 years Nelson has served as Head Coach and led the team to the playoffs each of those 12 years. With multiple trips to the quarterfinals and a trip to the semifinals in 2014, Coach Stewart has helped the Football program serve as a perennial state contender. Nelson has also served as an instructor at the Manning Passing Academy for 10 years while also helping to guide 13 of our football players to compete at the collegiate level.
