Pre-K Visits The Rex Den

For Newman’s Pre-K students, February 9 will be a day to remember, as the Class of 2035 took a field trip to visit The Rex Den. The warehouse serves as a storage facility and design hub for the Krewe of Rex floats which will roll on Mardi Gras day as the crown jewel of New Orleans’ Carnival parades. For many of the students, it was a day of firsts: first bus ride, first field trip, and the first time seeing the new designs of the floats for 2022. The children toured the facility, eyes wide, as a tour guide told them all about the design, which the Krewe has been working on since the last Mardi Gras in 2020. The guides explained the different themes and symbols of the floats and gave a short lesson on Mardi Gras (and Rex) history. The children had a colorful, fun, and memorable outing, one of very few that have occurred since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to having many more such trips in the near future!
