New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair Winners

In mid-February a handful of Newman Greenies competed against high school students from around the city and beyond at the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF). Among the winners were twelve finishes in the top 5, five 1st place finishes, and a Grand Prize win.

Junior Caitlin Estrada ’23 won the GNOSEF Grand Prize with her project, “Modeling Hydroelectric Power on the Mississippi River,” thereby making her eligible to move on to the International Science Fair, along with the State Fair if she chooses. Mia Guill ’23, Adelaide Jackson ’23, Samantha Knister ’23, and Lizzie Robert '22 also landed 1st-place wins and will all move on to the State Science Fair.

In other categories, Ryker Dolese ’22, Ellie Menszer ’23, and Libby Payne ’23 placed 2nd, while Ashley Alfortish ’23, Lillie Dodd ’25, Kate Drury ’22, and Emmet Paton ’22 placed 4th. All 1st and 2nd place award recipients qualify for the state competition in March.

Please join us in congratulating all our contestants and winners. These impressive accomplishments are a testament to Newman’s strong science program – and our student's passion – that so many Greenies received accolades at this year’s event. Please find information on all of the winners and their projects below.
