Newman Choirs Win in Gatlinburg and the LMEA Competition
R. Hibbert
Newman’s Middle and Upper School Choirs, comprised of students in sixth to twelfth grades, traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee to participate in the prestigious Music in the Parks competition, in which choirs form around the region compete using a catalog of three songs evaluated by experienced choral judges. The choirs sung a series of songs in English, Chinese, Swedish, German, and Cajun French. The judges were understandably impressed, awarding the Middle School Choir First Place, Superior rating in its division. The Upper School Choir was awarded Second Place, Superior rating in its division.
This trip came on the heels of a great week for all three of the Schools’ choirs at the LMEA State Assessment at UNO. All three Choirs, Lower, Middle, and Upper School, were awarded the highest possible scores (Sweepstakes) by the LMEA.
Congratulations to all of our talented choristers!
