Both the Newman boys and girls varsity cross country teams proved that they have some get-up-and-go, running away with the district titles on Thursday, November 4. Competing for the District 10-2A the boys snatched the district title for the 15th consecutive year. Not to be shown up by the boys, the girls also sprinted into a district win, their 2nd in a row and their 14th win of the last 16 district competitions.
In addition to the title wins, seven boys and girls were also names all-district athletes. Newman actually had more than the top seven, but district rules cap the number of all-district athletes at seven from a single school. Here are the winning runners.
Boys: Daniel Folse, Robert Lapeyre, Gordon Cole, Gabe Winsberg, Graham Sax, Michael Downing, and Robert Burns
Girls: Hannah Kalozdi, Delaney Burst, Marla Bernstein, Kelly Swanson, Julia Hollings, Blakeley Ramirez, and Sarah Millan

The middle school cross country teams also made a strong showing in the Beth Bonner Invitational on November 6. The boys placed third and the girls fourth in the Saturday Invitational at Audubon Park. The meet is named after Beth Bonner, a pioneer of the women’s marathon movement and one-time record-breaking winner of the New York City Marathon. The Invitational is meant to honor her memory, achievement, and dedication to the sport. Click on one of the links below to for the teams’ results.
