Varsity Football finished the season with eight wins and four losses, and the team finished 4 and 3 in the 10-2A district. The team’s playoff appearances included a win at home against Port Barre in the 1st round. In the 2nd round they fell to East Feliciana on the road. The following players were named First Team All District: Chase Crowell, Wes Fisher, Odell Beckham, Richard Brennan, and Ryan Brenner. Odell Beckham was also named the MVP of the district, and will play in this year’s Army game. Senior quarterback Ryan Brenner led Orleans Parish in passing yards, and senior Odell Beckham led the parish in receiving yards.
Head Coach Nelson Stewart said this about the 2010 Greenies, “I am very proud of our 17 seniors. They continued to build a solid foundation that will greatly benefit our future teams.”
The JV football team finished their year 4-1 with victories over Fisher, Pope John Paul, Riverside, and Ecole Classique’s varsity team.
The 8th grade finished their year with big wins over Riverside, Fisher, and John Curtis. They did a fantastic job and the whole team contributed to their outstanding season.
The 6th and 7th grade team finished the season with a big win against Brother Martin in the consolation game of the Metro League Championship Series. Every player was an integral part of this impressive season. We look forward to our youngest players becoming part of the football legacy at Newman.
