[FULL STORY]
On August 24, 2011, the Reynolds Ryan Art Gallery was packed for a very special event: the Fine Arts Faculty Group Show. Teachers across the spectrum of the visual arts presented at the show. There were also a variety of different media presented, including charcoal and acrylic on canvas, watercolor on paper, wood-block prints, photography, ink on paper, multimedia on paper, and ceramics.
Sheila Connolly (lower school art) created wood block prints of pelicans in various sizes, while fellow teacher Victoria Snell (lower school art) adorned huge and small canvases with charcoal and acrylic. Jerry Guillot (upper school art) contributed a number of watercolor paintings as well as mixed media on paper, while Liese Weber-Frutchey (dance) stretched beyond her dance expertise with ink-on-paper pieces and some photography. A clay contingent, consisting of Rachael DePauw (ceramics) and Rebecca Thomason (dean’s office), displayed beautiful pottery in the form of plates, cups and bowls. Photographers Meghann Niehus (photography and film) and Allison Bach ’88 (art history) offered framed prints of their recent photos.
Teachers, students, and friends of the School pored over the collected art, and quite a few art lovers left with plans for new additions to their collections. All in all, 15 pieces sold – an impressive accomplishment for any art opening. The pieces are planned to stay on exhibit through September 10. The Reynolds Ryan Art Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m. top 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
