Results for the 28th Annual Newman Track and Field Invitational

On Friday, March 30, the boys and girls hosted the 28th Annual Newman Track and Field Invitational at West Jefferson High School’s Hoss Memtsas Stadium on the West Bank.
 
The girls track team put together a solid performance at the Invitational. The team finished 5th with Haley Johnson, Avery Rowan, Kayla Pleasant, and Jada Hawkins winning individual titles in their respective events. Avery set a new school record in the high jump with a jump of 5’4”, and Jada set a new school record in the triple jump with a leap of 34’ 4”.
 
Also finishing in the top 6 and scoring points for the team were Jada (3rd in the 200), Avery (100 hurdles), Katherine Woolridge (3rd in the mile), Kayla Pleasant (3rd in the shot put) and Hannah Kalozdi (4th in the mile).
 
Individually, the boys had 23 seasonal best efforts, of which 15 were also personal career record performances. Of particular note were the 3rd place finishes by Philip Lapeyre in the high jump, James White in the 100 meter dash, Kendall Bussey in the 300 meter hurdles, Allen Kuhn in the 200 meter dash, and Michael Downing in the 3200 meter run. The 2nd place finishes included Cole Ashman in the pole vault and by the 400 and 800 meter relay teams. Justin Harrell won 1st place in the high jump, while Phillip Stephens got 1st place in both the shot put and discus. For his efforts, Phillip Stephens was awarded the Most Valuable Field Award for the entire meet.
 
As a team, the boys placed 3rd overall in the eight-team meet with a total of 100 points.
 
This Thursday, April 5, the boys and girls travel to East Jefferson’s Joe Yenni Stadium to compete in the Mike Conlin Invitational. The field events begin at 3:00 p.m. and the track events begin at 6:00 p.m. This will be the last meet before our District Meet at West Jefferson High School’s stadium on April 18, after Spring Break.
