[FULL STORY]
The scent of hot buttered popcorn mingled with the crinkle of candy wrappers as the house lights went down in the Henson Auditorium on the evening of April 1. The audience – students, parents, faculty, and staff – crowded into the Henson Auditorium for the Fourth Annual Newman Film Festival.
The yearly festival showcases films ranging from trailers to narrative shorts, the best work of the talented young screenwriters, cinematographers, and directors in Newman’s film program. To help rate the films, event organizers called on a selection of Newman alumni and parents involved in the entertainment industry, including Susan Gore Brennan ’72, Greg Carr ’02, Leslie Castay, Will French ’90, Ken Lass ’05, and Evangeline Morphos ’67. The judges rated the films in a number of categories and assigned awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Actor/Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Silent Film. After the screening, the audience also voted to determine the Audience Award. See below for the full list of award-winning films and production teams.

While not all of the films were award winners, all the films were entertaining and showed the considerable skills of the film production teams. The students worked for the greater part of the school year, developing their concepts from the brainstorming stage through filming, post production, and making trailers and posters for their work.
