Two Newman students won honors in the in the annual city-wide French Oratory Contest, hosted by the Council of French Societies. The yearly contest rates French students on their oratorical ability, fluency, conversational skills, and understanding of the French language. Over 100 students from the metro-New Orleans area competed this year.

Newman students chose a good way to fund a great cause with the first annual Sleep-Out for Covenant House. Together, the students raised more than $7,000 to support Covenant House of New Orleans, which provides housing and supportive services to youth facing homelessness. Read on to find out how.

The Newman Swim team traveled to Sulphur, Louisiana on Wednesday and Thursday to participate in the LHSAA State Championship Swimming Tournament. The Boys team finished in first place to take home the State title for the fourth consecutive year.

Three runners achieved All-State designation as the Newman Varsity Cross Country competed in the LHSAA 2A State Championship three-mile race.

Newman’s Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the 2018 recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award is Ms. Ti Adelaide Martin ’78. Award-winning restaurateur, author, speaker, philanthropist, and advocate for New Orleans, Martin is one of the country’s most admired leaders in the hospitality industry.

Sixth grade science teacher Lisa Swenson was named a Louisiana finalist in the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The PAEMST awards are among the nation’s highest awards for teachers of mathematics and science.

Today Newman recognized the members of the 2018 Homecoming Court in a ceremony for the Upper School. Homecoming Queen Laine Nowak joined Homecoming King John French and the other members of the Court on stage to be presented to their peers, and to hear remarks by Darryl Berger ’65.

In two signing events this week, seniors Alaliyah Burras and MiKayla and Jessi Ruhl formalized their intent to join sports programs at Nicholls State and the University of San Diego.

Students from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes were honored for their outstanding performance this school year in an array of academic and artistic disciplines. 

Newman fifth and sixth graders competed at the Country Day Math Olympiad, with one winning the competition outright and two others sharing 2nd and 3rd place.

This past weekend the Newman Speech & Debate Team competed in the State Tournament for the Louisiana High School Speech League. Seven students were named State Champions and the School earned Second Place overall. 

A special documentary showcasing the Newman Varsity Football team's march toward a 10-0 regular season premieres March 23 and runs through April.

Newman senior Hackett Cummins ’18 signed a letter of intent to play for Furman University's Lacrosse team on Jan. 19 in an afternoon ceremony in front of family, teammates, coaches, and classmates.

The Policy Debate team of Rajan Agrawal '18 and Royden Lynch '18 qualified for the National Tournament of Champions (TOC), marking the first time since 2002 that a Newman team has qualified in this event.
